Megson won't blame officials

Sunday February 10 2008

Bolton manager Gary Megson refused to blame the officials after Lassana Diarra's offside goal allowed Portsmouth to snatch a 1-0 Premier League victory at the Reebok Stadium.

That moment of controversy came in the 80th minute in a move which was started and finished by Diarra as he drove forward and laid off a pass before continuing his run.

As Andy O'Brien put in a tackle, the ball rebounded off Kanu and into the path of Diarra, two yards offside.

However, with no flag, the midfielder did not hesitate in drilling a shot past Jussi Jaaskelainen to seal the win.

However, Megson accepted it was an almost impossible decision to get right.

"I would expect the linesman, if it had been a simple pass through, to see the offside,'' he said. "But I'm sure the decision they had to make was whether Kanu put it through or whether it was O'Brien.

"It is obviously Kanu and it is offside -- but I'm not one of those who starts moaning and groaning at the referees."
