Goalkeeper Kieran McEvery saved a second-half penalty in a thrilling semi-final at Santry Avenue as UCC ended UCD's hopes of retaining the trophy.

The Cork college, who were certainly worth their win, went ahead early on through Robert Waters, but David O'Connor soon had the Dubliners back on level terms.

Rufus Holmes restored UCC's advantage before the break with a curling shot from 25 yards -- a goal worthy of winning any match.

The drama didn't end there, as UCD were awarded a penalty midway through the second half after McEvery brought down James Trimmer.

Amazingly, McEvery wasn't sent off and he made the most of his reprieve as he dived to his right to save Paul Corry's spot-kick.
