Sunderland winger James McClean has been included in Ireland’s squad for this summer’s European Championships.

However, midfielder James McCarthy has withdrawn because his father has been diagnosed with cancer.

Announcing the squad at a press conference in Dublin this afternoon, manager Giovanni Trapattoni said the Wigan player had made the decision to make himself unavailable.

The full squad is: Shay Given, Keiren Westwood, David Forde, Richard Dunne, John O’Shea, Sean St Ledger, Darren O’Dea, Stephen Ward, Stephen Kelly, Kevin Foley, Glenn Whelan, Darron Gibson, Keith Andrews, Keith Fahey, Damien Duff, Aiden McGeady, Stephen Hunt, James McClean, Robbie Keane (captain), Kevin Doyle, Simon Cox, Shane Long, Jon Walters.

Standby: Darren Randolph, Paul McShane, Paul Green, Seamus Coleman, Andy Keogh. Comments Facility

INM has taken the decision to remove the commenting facility on its online platform to minimise the legal risk to our business that arises from Ireland's draconian libel awards system.
