Goals from captain Jody Craddock, new signing Stephen Fletcher and Geoffrey Mujangi Bia enabled Wolves to kick off their pre-season schedule with a win over Bohemians' second-string at Dalymount Park on Saturday.

Mick McCarthy's side took the lead as early as the sixth minute, Craddock heading the ball home from a corner, but the locals weren't overawed by their Premier League opponents.

Jason Byrne, Matt Doherty and the nippy Gary Burke all came close as Bohs pushed for an equaliser before Wolves doubled their lead in the 61st minute when former Burnley player Fletcher drove a Matt Jarvis cross into the top corner after good play by Dubliner Andy Keogh. Mujangi Bia completed the scoring in added-time.

Irish underage international goalkeeper Aaron McCarey made his first-team debut for Wolves and enjoyed the experience.

"It was good to get on the last 10 minutes," he said. "I've been training with the first team all week and things have been going really well."

After getting into the Monaghan team in the second half of last season, the 18-year-old moved away in January.

"It's a big step up for me. I'm not running down the Airtricity League but it's a huge step up coming from a First Division Irish club to a Premier Division team," he said.

Manager McCarthy said he is pleased with McCarey's progress. "I'm delighted for Aaron. He's a lovely lad and has improved no end since starting full-time training," he said.

McCarthy was also happy with how Fletcher combined with Kevin Doyle.

"They were excellent together. They have been training but it's different in the games," said the Wolves boss, who declined to comment on speculation linking Doyle with a move to Arsenal.

Doyle also chose to dodge the subject, confining his comments to: "My hopes are the same as the rest of the lads and that's to do better than last season."
