Manchester City sent a classy message of congratulations to their great rivals Manchester United after their Europa League final win in Stockholm.

A huge shadow was cast over United’s game against Ajax after the horrifying events at the Manchester Arena on Monday night ended with the needless death of 22 people at the hands of a cowardly suicide bomber.

Manchester has come together to share their grief in the hours after the attack and the mood of solidarity continued after the game, as City quickly posted a fitting message to sum up the mood.

United’s players then posted a moving image from their dressing room that will send out a resounding message to the watching world.

Sport cannot heal the wounds created by the mindless insanity we all witnessed on Monday night, but this was a moment for a city in mourning to united like never before.
