Madrid paper shamed as offside airbrushing exposed
The intense rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid spilled on to the pages of the capital's newspapers after the Madrid-based sports daily AS was caught offside having airbrushed out a player from an image of a controversial offside decision.
In the build-up to David Villa's opening goal in Barca's 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao last weekend there was a suspicion of offside.
Never ones to miss an opportunity to have a go at Madrid's arch-rivals, AS appeared to exaggerate the borderline decision by deleting one of the Bilbao defenders in the image, turning what looked like a marginal call into a clear off-side and, of course, leaving their readers in no doubt that Real were the victims of another great injustice.
However, since the 'mistake' was revealed, the paper was forced to set the record straight with a 'before and after' screengrab clearly illustrating their erroneous imagery.
