Lowe blow breaks Republic of Ireland hearts

Published 18/03/2014 | 02:30

Northern Ireland Schools scored in stoppage-time to secure a 2-1 win over their Republic of Ireland counterparts in the U-18 Centenary Shield match at the Showgrounds.

The hosts were ahead at the interval thanks to a 41st-minute header from captain Ryan Manning, who had twice been denied by the crossbar.

Only five minutes of the second half had elapsed when Curtis Dempster equalised.

The Republic failed to make their pressure count late on as both Chris Flanagan and substitute George Kelly missed chances. They were punished late on when midfielder Kris Lowe raced clear to score the winner.
