Linfield frustrate Saints
St Patrick's Athletic were held to a draw by Linfield in their opening Group Three game of the 2010 Setanta Sports Cup yesterday evening at Richmond Park.
Pete Mahon's new-look Saints made an assured start and were rewarded with their positive approach when, on 15 minutes, Alex Williams bundled the ball over the line from a free-kick.
Linfield drew level 10 minutes from the break when Jim Ervin slammed home a penalty which resulted from Damien Lynch's trip on winger Jamie Tomelty.
Goalkeeper Alan Blayney somehow denied what seemed a certain second goal for the hosts in the 53rd minute when he managed to claw Ryan Guy's header to safety. Mahon's men enjoyed the lion's share of the possession for the majority of the second half, but failed to turn their dominance into goals.
