Drogheda United didn't encounter any bother in Limerick, confidently advancing to the quarter-finals of the FAI Ford Cup.

With boss Damien Richardson absent, assistant manager Darius Kierans took charge and was satisfied with how the Boynesiders coped with non-league Ballynanty Rovers.

"I don't think we started particularly well, but after 10 minutes we settled down and we created numerous chances," said Kierans.

With Mick Daly and Gavan Holohan bossing the midfield, Drogheda were in control throughout. The visitors struck for their first after 25 minutes when Daire Doyle bundled in from close range.

While the locals were gritty, Drogheda continued to dominate, adding a second on the stroke of half-time when Gavan Holohan thumped a fine effort.

Drogheda hit a third two minutes after the restart through Gary O'Neill, who also bagged a fourth on 76.

Ballynanty Rovers - McNamara; Hughes, Dunphy, Earls, S Doran (Daly 66); Purcell, Ryan, McInerney, Hanlon (O'Brien 66), Radcliffe (B Doran 60); Brommel.
