Tosi silences Rovers with last-gasp Limerick leveller
Shamrock Rovers 1 Limerick FC 1
Rodrigo Tosi sent Tallaght Stadium into silence last night by nicking a point for Limerick with a last-minute equaliser at Shamrock Rovers.
Leading at the interval through Roberto Lopes' first goal for the club, the familiar pitfall of Rovers failing to see out the game cost them as the Brazilian slid in to sink the leveller. It prompted a chorus of boos from at full-time from the home fans who have seen their side win just four games in the opening series of 11 matches.
Rovers had taken control as an attacking force in the first half and forged ahead on 18 minutes.
Graham Burke's inviting corner on the right was read perfectly by Lopes, who raced to the near post and steered his powerful header high into the net.
Gary Shaw missed a sitter shortly afterwards and Rovers were eventually made to pay.
After Tomer Chencinski had denied Tosi's header on the hour, he was helpless to prevent the forward ghosting in at the far post to connect with Chiedozie Ogbene's low right-wing cross and plunder the equaliser.
It prompted jeers from the home faithful at the full-time whistle and it doesn't get any easier next week as champions Dundalk visit.
