Shamrock Rovers narrowly missed out a place in the final of the Sait Nagjee Trophy after they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Brazil’s Atlético Paranaense.
Pat Fenlon’s men had made it to the penultimate round by emerging as runners-up from Group B thanks to wins over 1860 Munich’s reserves and the Argentina U23s.
Coming up against Paranaense in the sweltering heath of the EMS Stadium in Kozhikode, Rovers gave a fine account of themselves with Gary Shaw, Brandon Miele and Dean Clarke all hitting the woodwork.
However, in the 62nd minute, Yago Da Silva netted the decisive strike for the Brazilian club to go on to the final.
