Shamrock Rovers edge towards title challengers with victory over Finn Harps
Finn Harps 0 Shamrock Rovers 2
SECOND-HALF goals by Sean Boyd and Dean Clarke fired Shamrock Rovers to a routine win over Finn Harps last night.
After a tepid first half, the Hoops took the lead nine minutes into the second half.
Brandon Miele’s magnificent footwork made the moment, leaving Harps stunned and Boyd slammed past Harps goalkeeper Richard Brush from close range.
Ten minutes from the end, Boyd turned provider, with a pass through for substitute Clarke, who drilled home.
Ruairi Keating, restored to the home line-up after a suspension, came close to firing Harps in front on the half-hour. Sean Houston’s break created the opening after capitalising on Gary McCabe’s mistake, but Craig Hyland did well to turn Keating’s shot around the post.
From Tony McNamee’s corner, Keating stabbed wide at the front post when he should have done better.
After Boyd opened the scoring, it was an uphill battle for Harps, who saw Gareth Harkin shoot into the arms of Hyland and Rovers could have won by more.
Boyd, who had an excellent second half, was buzzing and he got around Brush late in the night but a dangerous ball across had no takers while Boyd went close previously, curling over.
