Saints maintain hot streak
UCD 1 St Pat's 3
So St Patrick's Athletic's unbeaten run continues. But does a title challenge also start?
Thanks to last night's victory at Belfield, Pete Mahon's side have now gone nine consecutive games -- a quarter of a season -- without defeat. And they certainly didn't do things by half last night, overcoming a spirited UCD with a full-blooded performance.
It didn't take long for Pat's to justify their league position, going ahead after 13 minutes. Daryl Kavanagh's cross found Evan McMillan, who volleyed across goal for Derek Doyle to finish.
On 33 minutes, however, UCD again illustrated that their own league position mightn't be the fairest reflection of their resolve. Pat's failed to clear after a scramble for the ball, allowing David O'Connor to head home.
But that was also how the in-form Kavanagh eventually undid UCD. After a fiercely contested opening to the second half, he powered in Stephen Bradley's corner.
Not long afterwards, Danny North wrapped things up with a powerful shot. Pat's have now won six of their last seven. Talk of winning the title shouldn't be dismissed too readily.
