Goals from James Chambers, Sean O'Connor and Karl Sheppard along with a brace each for Ronan Finn and Billy Dennehy ensured that Shamrock Rovers steamrolled over a very poor Drogheda United at Tallaght Stadium and secured a second Setanta Sports Cup victory in three seasons.

Rovers dominated from the start of this totally one-sided match and raced into a two-goal lead before the clock had ticked past the quarter-hour mark.

Rovers went ahead on 12 minutes when O'Connor's dangerous in-swinger from the wing was met by Drogs' Ryan Brennan who headed the ball down but it took a wicked bounce off Chambers and whizzed past Drogheda keeper Gabriel Sava. Rovers were in dreamland two minutes later when Danny Ledwith's cross took a knock off Shane Grimes and dropped into the path of O'Connor who fired from the left of the six-yard box, past Sava, and into the far corner.

Sava was beaten again on 45 minutes when Sheppard raced onto Finn's brilliant through-ball and rifled home.

Any faint hopes that Drogheda held of getting back into the game disappeared 10 minutes into the second half when Finn scored twice in the space of 60 seconds. His first came on 55 minutes with an excellent long range strike before the former UCD man doubled his tally with a neat finish from inside the penalty area.
