Patterson downs Bohs to extend Derry's perfect home record
Derry City 1-0 Bohemians
Derry City extended their 100pc home record with this hard-fought success.
The game, which will not live long in the memory back, was settled in the first half by Rory Patterson's sixth goal of the campaign.
Derry had a half-chance early on when Patrick McClean's crossfield pass found Nathan Boyle, but from a tight angle the striker was unable to trouble Bohs keeper Dean Delany.
City did take the lead on 14 minutes after Keith Ward's pass released Barry McNamee, who with only Delany to beat seemed to loose his footing, but the ball fell straight into Patterson's path and he made no mistake from just inside the box.
Bohs should have equalised on 31 minutes when Kurtis Byrne surged clear of the City defence, but with only Gerard Doherty to beat, he completely missed the ball when six yards out and the City keeper gathered the loose ball.
Nine minutes later McNamee's well-hit pass found Boyle on the right of the box, but the striker's powerful shot was kept out by Delany.
Just before half-time Eoin Wearen's 20 yard strike was saved by a diving Doherty.
Bohs boss Keith Long made a change at the break, with ex-City striker Mark Quigley coming on for Wearen.
On 57 minutes another clever pass by Ward found McNamee, who again broke clear of the Bohs defence, but his shot was easily saved by Delany.
Bohs probably shaded things in the second half but they never troubled Doherty, until 81 minutes, when a super free-kick by substitute Jake Kelly flashed across the keeper's six-yard box and just eluded Derek Prendergast.
