ST PATRICK's Athletic were last night handed the golden ticket into the quarter-finals of the FAI Ford Cup.

Monaghan United's withdrawal from the competition meant that the first team out of the draw-drum were handed a bye into the last eight and it was the Saints who booked their place.

The news will come as a boost for manager Liam Buckley, whose side are competing on three fronts and face a crowded fixture list, having progressed to the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

The pick of the ties sees Cork City travel to Tallaght to take on Shamrock Rovers, while UCD host Derry City in the other all-Premier Division tie.

Leinster Senior League outfit Malahide United were drawn at home to struggling Dundalk, but fellow non-league sides Avondale United and Cherry Orchard face away trips to Bohemians and Shelbourne respectively.

There will definitely be a First Division side in the last eight after Waterford United drew Mervue United, while Drogheda United will face Wexford Youths. The matches are scheduled to be held on the weekend ending Sunday, August 26.
