Osbourne stunner rocks Saints
St Patrick's Ath 0 Drogheda Utd 1
Eoghan Osbourne snatched a first win of the season for Drogheda United against all the odds with a stunning 94th-minute free-kick at Richmond Park last night.
In the process, the left-back put an end to St Patrick's Athletic's unbeaten run, although results elsewhere dictated that the shell-shocked Saints remain joint top alongside Dundalk.
Pete Mahon's men should have had the game won by the 75th minute after they were presented with a number of opportunities. Ryan Guy dithered over the ball when he found himself clean through on goal and Alan McNally recovered to limit the American to a tame effort on 66 minutes.
And they had two more golden opportunities within five minutes when Paul Byrne's free header six yards out flicked off a defender and over before the striker's namesake, Stuart, tamely headed the ball wide three minutes later.
The Boynesiders made the most of their very last attack when Osbourne fired a screamer into Gary Rogers' right-hand post at the death.
