O'Neill brace gets Fingal in the groove
Bray Wanderers 1
Sporting Fingal 3
Gary O'Neill scored twice as Fingal recorded their first Premier Division victory and in the process condemned Bray to their third straight defeat.
Former Bray striker Eamon Zayed returned to haunt his former club in the 15th minute. Full-back Ger O'Brien embarked on a mazy run and played a reverse pass back to Zayed, who shot low past Brian Kane to open the scoring.
After the Seagulls almost grabbed an instant reply through Chris Shields, the visitors doubled their lead eight minutes into the second period. Conan Byrne cut the ball back for Gary O'Neill to lift a close range effort into the roof of the net.
Bray's new Spanish recruit Juan Pablo Rodriguez was introduced and he almost scored with his very first touch before Bray did find the net in the 75th minute when Shane O'Neill cracked a stunning 22-yard drive past a despairing Brendan Clarke.
However, the visitors snuffed out any hopes Bray had of snatching a draw with a third goal in the 81st minute after O'Neill took advantage of confusion between goalkeeper and defender to poke the ball into an empty net.
