Conor O'Malley produced a man-of-the-match display to earn St Patrick's a point with an exemplary show of goalkeeping in this Dublin derby at Tallaght Stadium.
A stunning late stop from Rovers' substitute keeper Barry Murphy denied St Pat's a winner they scarcely would have deserved.
Though they'd won on their previous two visits this season, St Pat's arrived in Tallaght off a damaging home defeat to Bohemians and without suspended striker Christy Fagan.
Pat's blew a glorious chance when Michael Barker set up Graham Kelly, who contrived to side-foot over the crossbar with the goal gaping.
The hosts then got on top, and O'Malley had to be alert to tip Sean Boyd's header from a Simon Madden cross onto the bar and out for a corner.
O'Malley soon excelled again, getting a good hand to Patrick Cregg's shot after the midfielder worked a one-two with Boyd.
Well on top, Rovers carved another fine chance on 61 minutes. Gary McCabe delightfully touched down a diagonal ball from Dave Webster into the path of skipper Stephen McPhail, whose low shot was brilliantly saved by O'Malley.
But it was Rovers who then needed rescuing with a remarkable save on 81 minutes. Kelly found space on the edge of the area to shoot, and Murphy brilliantly touched his rising left-foot shot over his bar.
