O'Connor's late strike sends Lilies crashing

GORTAKEEGAN has never been the happiest of hunting grounds for Dundalk and so it proved again last night as Cathal O'Connor's 87th-minute winner sent Monaghan United into the final.

Alan Byrne should have hit the target for the hosts with a free header in the 55th minute and 11 minutes later Sean Brennan cracked a 35-yard free-kick against the crossbar.

The vital goal came with the game stretched. O'Connor, a former Dundalk player, drilled a vicious left-footed effort past Peter Cherrie at his near post.
