Sligo took full advantage of Robert Bayly's controversial first-half sending-off as Micky Adams' new charges picked up their first league win in five outings against Drogheda at United Park.
Bayly, making his debut for Drogheda, was harshly dismissed on 25 minutes after a challenge on John Russell.
Two goals in four minutes from Morten Nielsen and Jason Hughes soon followed as Sligo took command. The Danish striker later added a second, just his third of a frustrating season, while Anthony Elding's late spot-kick sealed the win.
Nielsen's first came when Russell crossed in from the left. Moments after seeing a header well saved by Micheal Schlingermann, Nielsen made no mistake. Sligo doubled their lead soon after when Hughes capitalised on a mix-up in the Drogheda defence to beat the goalkeeper with a low shot.
Drogheda made changes in an effort to stem the tide but Sligo pulled further away after the restart.
Nielsen grabbed his second on 51 minutes, before sub Keith Ward was fouled in the area by Mick Daly five minutes from time. Elding scored the penalty.
