New boys shine for Bit O'Red

Sligo Rovers 5 Glentoran 0

Debutants Anthony Elding and Evan McMillan were among the goals as league champions Sligo Rovers trounced below-strength Glentoran at the Showgrounds.

Midfielder Lee Lynch chipped in with a brace, while Ryan Connolly got his first goal for the club as Rovers ran riot.

Rovers had the ball in the net after just 130 seconds, with Lynch superbly volleying Elding's knockdown to the net from inside the area.

Elding had an effort ruled out for offside, but got the goal his play deserved when heading home Lynch's cross from close range on 20 minutes.

The visitors were unable to keep up with the intelligent running of David Cawley, who broke down the right on 37 minutes before picking out Connolly, who flicked the ball home.

A Connolly cross fell kindly for Lynch to fire his second, and the Bit O'Red were four clear by the break. They did not let up in the second half, with McMillan heading home Joseph Ndo's cross on 53 minutes, before Cawley was denied an audacious back-heel goal by Glentoran 'keeper Elliot Morris.

Sligo Rovers – Keane, McMillan, Peers, Gaynor, Ndo (Millien 62), Lynch, Cawley, Connolly, Greene (Martin 74), Elding (Cretaro 62).
