The Dublin derby between St Patrick's Athletic and Shamrock Rovers, which was called off two hours before kick-off last night due to an unplayable pitch, has been rescheduled for Inchicore on Monday.

Persistent throughout the day left ref Dave McKeon with no option, and the decision to immediately re-fix the match met with the approval of both managers because of congested schedule later in the month.

"It's disappointing for everybody as the pitch is actually in great condition but it's just that there is waterlogging on it," said Rovers boss Pat Fenlon.

"But I think it's the right decision as there are seven or eight bad patches on it. It's good to get it played as quickly as it could be as both teams have a lot of games coming up."

His opposite number Liam Buckley said: "It's the right decision as it would have been a farce."
