Meynell keeps out Wanderers

Bray Wanderers 0
Galway United 2

Galway earned a vital victory at the Carlisle Grounds with regular left-back Rhys Meynell performing as an emergency goalkeeper.

With Barry Ryan suspended, and reserve Seamus Friel injured, Meynell embraced the responsibility as Sean Connor's improving outfit's character helped eke out an away win.

Galway settled briskly and they hit the front from Anto Flood's ninth-minute strike from outside the area.

The former Shelbourne striker turned provider in the 20th minute when he released the pacy Karl Sheppard, who finished crisply.

Meynell's reflexes were examined in the 36th minute when he saved a blistering Dave Webster free-kick.

After the restart Meynell coped well, and when he was beaten by a David O'Neill effort on 75 minutes, Seamus Conneely cleared off the line.
