Paul McGrath last night led the tributes to his former St Patrick's Athletic manager Charlie Walker, who has passed away.

Walker brought McGrath to the Saints from Dalkey United in 1981 and the former Irish international tweeted: "Sorry to hear of the passing of a great man and friend. Charlie Walker taught me a lot about the game. RIP Boss."

In addition to his five years in charge of the Saints, Walker was the first manager of Longford Town when they joined the League of Ireland. Earlier in his career, he had a strong association with Home Farm.

Walker, who was well known on the junior football circuit, worked on talent-spotting after leaving Longford.
