McDaid denies UCD

UCD may have stopped their slide last night, but that won't stop their worries.

In yet another match where they played above themselves, The Students had both control of the game and victory in the bag. Ultimately, though, the same old flaws at the back undermined them as David McDaid scored a late header to deny UCD a victory.

Derry tore into UCD from the off, creating two fine chances for Gareth McGlynn and a gilt-edged one for Eamon Zayed.

'Keeper Ger Barron stood firm for McGlynn's efforts. Zayed sent his header wide.

UCD took the lead on the stroke of half-time, after a throw-in fell to Dean Marshall who opened the scores. Buoyed, they didn't buckle when Danny Lafferty equalised from a set-piece on 67 minutes, and went straight up the other end and straight back ahead, Graham Rusk's half-volley flying in.

With just five minutes remaining, however, another set-piece caused confusion in the box allowing substitute McDaid to head in another equaliser.
