Cork City maintained their 100pc start to the season by routing naive Limerick FC at a sold-out Markets Field last night. Goals from Sean Maguire, Garry Buckley and Gearoid Morrissey kept the Leesiders six points clear at the top.

Maguire availed of dismal defending to finish 19 minutes in, and he should have made it 2-0 moments later after rounding keeper Brendan Clarke.

Jimmy Keohane flashed a shot wide with the Limerick defence once again at sixes and sevens, and Buckley made it 2-0 from a Kevin O'Connor cross eight minutes from the break.

Limerick went three at the back for the second half but were 3-0 down inside a minute after Morrisey drilled home a low shot from a Stephen Dooley pass.

That completed the scoring, but with Dooley having an effort cleared off the line and Buckley, Connor Ellis and Karl Sheppard also threatening, a 5-0 or 6-0 win wouldn't have flattered the table-toppers.
