Lilywhites braced for hectic season finale
The FAI have confirmed the itinerary for the remainder of the League of Ireland season after announcing a series of rearranged fixtures involving title chasers Dundalk and Cork City.
Both sides are set for a hectic run-in ahead of the planned end to the season on Friday, October 28, with Dundalk unhappy that attempts to extend the league campaign have proved unsuccessful as they have European commitments to factor into their schedule.
They hold a four-point lead over Cork at the top of the table with seven games remaining. Next Tuesday's meeting of the sides at Oriel Park is the key fixture in the run-in. Both teams have to travel to St Patrick's Athletic, with the dates finalised yesterday.
Dundalk travel to Longford three days before they host Zenit St Petersburg in Tallaght and the main knock-on effect from the showdown with the Russian side is that they will then have to face Bohemians and Pat's in a 48-hour window at the start of the final week of the league campaign.
Stephen Kenny's charges will then travel to Russia for the return meeting before their FAI Cup final encounter with Cork at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, November 6.
