Legend 'chick' deacy passes

Tuesday February 14 2012

GALWAY soccer legend Eamon 'Chick' Deacy died suddenly yesterday morning at the age of 59.

Deacy won an English First Division medal with Aston Villa in 1981 and also won four senior caps for Ireland. The full-back was one of just 14 players that manager Ron Saunders used in Villa's league-winning campaign.

He also spent time with Derby County and was part of the Galway United squad that tasted FAI Cup glory in 1991.

Deacy, who was a revered figure in his hometown, is survived by his wife Mary O'Connor, his son Jake, and daughter Dawn.

Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam dílis.
