Finn Harps roared to a deserved derby win over Sligo Rovers last night in Ballybofey.

Shaun Houston's brace, either end of Ryan Curran's sixth goal of the season, gave Ollie Horgan's team a first win in 10 games.

Houston latched onto Gareth Harkin's pass in the 17th minute and could scarcely believe the time and space he found himself in. Houston took his time and slipped a low shot past Micheál Schlingermann.

Harps lined up with five at the back and frustrated the in-form Sligo, who went to Ballybofey with six wins in their previous seven.

Jimmy Keohane forced Richard Brush - in as a surprise selection instead of Ciaran Gallagher - into turning over from his effort from distance while Kieran Sadlier curled a shot over.

Brush saved again from Keohane on the stroke of half-time and, four minutes into the second half, Curran brilliantly powered home after a tidy move by Ciaran Coll and Dave Scully.

The game was firmly put to bed when Houston hooked home from 15 yards after Schlingermann failed to hold Coll's free-kick.

Finn Harps - R Brush; E Boyle, K Cowan, P Mailey, T McMonagle, C Coll; A Hanlon (M Funston 88), G Harkin, S Houston, R Curran; D Scully (K McHugh 75).
