GOALS from Owen Heary and Glen Cronin in a six-minute spell either side of half-time proved enough to seal the points for Bohemians at Hunky Dorys Park.

Pat Fenlon's side never had to get out of second gear against a Drogheda side still smarting from their embarrassing defeat at UCD last week.

The Boynesiders were a match for the Phibsboro men in the opening quarter.

However, Bohemians were frustrated when Anto Flood was put clean through on goal, collected the ball and chipped over 'keeper Robert Duggan -- only for his effort to be denied by a very late offside flag.

The game looked set to remain scoreless up to the interval, but on 43 minutes referee Tom Connolly penalised Brian Gannon for a foul near the right touchline and Killian Brennan's subsequent inswinging free-kick was powerfully headed home by Owen Heary at the back post.

Worse was to follow for the Drogs just four minutes into the second half when Cronin pounced on a terrible mix-up between Dave Rogers and Robbie Clarke, before his driving shot was deflected past Duggan.

DROGHEDA UNITED -- Duggan; Gaul (Mulvenna 75), McNally, Rogers, Clarke; M O'Brien, Gannon (Hand 55), McMahon, Brennan; White (Corcoran 75).

BOHEMIANS -- Sexton; Heary, Price, Burns, Rossiter; Flood (Hurley 86), Buckley, Cronin, Brennan, Forrester (Bayly 55); Downes (Fagan 79).

Ref -- T Connolly (Dublin).
