Finn Harps striker Kevin McHugh was last night having surgery to attempt to save a finger following a nasty accident yesterday evening.

McHugh was attempting to jump over a fence to retrieve a stray football when his wedding ring caught in the wire.

The Killea man was coaching at the Donegal Soccer Academy, which he runs, at the time.

McHugh - who has scored 186 goals in 438 appearances for Harps - was attended to at nearby Letterkenny University Hospital before being transferred to Galway, where he was to undergo surgery. McHugh posted a gruesome picture of the damage on Twitter.
