EDDIE GORMLEY is the front-runner to become the new manager of Dundalk.

The Louth club are on the hunt for a new boss after deciding not to renew the contract of Ian Foster, and Gormley has emerged as a strong candidate.

Ex-Ireland youths manager Sean McCaffrey and Foster's assistant Darius Kierans are also in the frame. Gormley has been out of the league since his departure from Bray in August of last year.

Foster's replacement will have to work off a modest playing budget for 2012. Liam Buckley had met with Dundalk officials about the job, but he chose to take over as manager of St Patrick's Athletic, where he is busy assembling a squad for next season.
