Globe-trotting Connor to lead Zimbabwe's 'Green' army

Saturday January 14 2012

With the League of Ireland's transfer merry-go-round still in full swing, players and managers have been upping sticks for pastures new. However, few will be able to match Sean Connor's dramatic change of base.

The former Gypsies boss washed up in Zimbabwe this week to take over as new manager of CAPS United. The Harare-based club, known as the Green Machine appropriately enough, are to give the Northern Irishman a three-year deal as the traditional giants of Zimbabwe's Division One look to end their six-year wait for a league title.

"A good friend of mine in Ireland has been speaking to me, for the past six months, about the possibility of coming here to coach and I have to say that I am happy to be finally here," Connor said. After Galway United's dark days last season, this should be a walk in the park.
