Fenlon left to lament as Hoops flop again
Shamrock Rovers 1 Bohemians 1
Shamrock Rovers boss Pat Fenlon was left to rue further missed opportunities as his side had to settle for another frustrating draw, their ninth of the season and fourth at Tallaght Stadium.
A first goal for the club from Gareth McCaffrey earned Rovers a draw against a Bohemians side they have failed to beat in their three games this season - March 2012 remains the last time they got the better of their arch-rivals in Tallaght.
Mikey Drennan missed two good openings for Rovers either side of Bohs taking the lead with a scrappy goal on 26 minutes.
Ismahil Akinade chased a through-ball from Keith Buckley and, as Barry Murphy raced out to meet the big striker, Akinade's shot pin-balled back off the Rovers goalkeeper to strike him again and trickle over the line.
Rovers were deservedly level on 51 minutes when 19-year-old McCaffrey latched onto a loose pass from Bohs skipper Dave Mulcahy to run on and drill a left-foot shot to the corner of the net from the edge of the area.
"It's been similar to what it's been all season here - we didn't take our chances," said Fenlon.
"We had four good chances in the game and we took only one of them. Gareth finished his one well, but the others were probably easier chances.
"It's definitely two points dropped and it's not good enough at home. We created enough chances to win two games.
"That's been our problem at home, we've drawn too many matches despite creating a lot of chances in them. That's something that has to change if we are to make any progress."
