Vinny Faherty was the hero once again for Galway United as they made it from four at Eamonn Deacy Park.
The 28-year-old struck the only goal in the 59th minute as the Tribesmen held on for their fourth SSE Airtricity Premier Division win of the season in front of 1,505.
Both sides struggled to find their touch in front of goal in a scoreless opening half.
Kevin Devaney impressed for the Tribesmen, looking dangerous down the left wing. But he should have done better with his chance just before half-time.
Ryan Connolly played a sumptuous ball through, and Devaney failed to pick out a team-mate; instead he boomed his shot left and wide.
Finn Harps' Ryan Curran also left a lot to be desired when he connected with Ethan Boyle's delivery but dragged it wide of the open goal. And Dave Scully looped a header inches over Conor Winn's crossbar 12 minutes into the second half.
And Galway took advantage of that miss in the 59th minute as Colm Horgan and Enda Curran set up Devaney, who crossed for the grateful Faherty to finished from close range.
Killian Cantwell almost made it 2-0 soon after but he couldn't direct Devaney's corner on target.
Galway looked in control after a few minutes in the ascendancy but a mistake from Paul Sinnott almost put Ryan Curran in, but he missed again.
