Derry City midfielder Josh Daniels (20) scored his first senior goal for his hometown club just weeks after losing his mother and sister in the Buncrana pier tragedy.
Daniels' mother, Ruth Daniels, his sister, Jodie Lee, and three others tragically drowned in March after the car they were travelling in slipped off the pier and into the water.
Derry City released a statement after the accident expressing their sympathy to the player who had 'been with this club since he was a boy' and he made his first big impact in the League of Ireland in style last night.
Daniels came off the bench with Derry 1-0 down to Finn Harps before popping up at the back post to emphatically slam home an equaliser. The home side then took the lead before Finn Harps sensationally levelled to snatch a last-gasp point.
The draw means that Derry slip to fourth in the table but it will still count as a memorable night for Daniels as he continues to try and put the recent tragedy behind him.
Afterwards, many people took to social media to congratulate the goal-scorer on his promising performance.
