Dundalk put their European heartache behind them as they stormed to a 5-1 win against Bray Wanderers to go three points clear of Cork City at the top of the Airtricity Premier League table.

Stephen Kenny’s men bowed out of Europe despite a fine win away to Hajduk Split during the week.

And they pushed on from that win with a classy attacking display at Oriel Park to keep their title hopes right on track.

Richie Towell opened the scoring after just three minutes and it was routine stuff thereafter for the home side.

Kurtis Byrne was on hand to fire home from close range to double Dundalk’s lead and both Towell and Byrne went close again before the break as Kenny’s men went in search of a third.

Byrne became provider after 57 minutes when he crossed for Pat Hoban to score and, four minutes later, Byrne added his second and Dundalk’s fourth with a sublime volley.

Ismahil Akinade pulled one back for Bray in the 83rd minute bit Hoban restored Dundalk’s four-goal advantage a minute later to send the home side clear at the top.
