Doolin parts from rebels
Tuesday December 01 2009
PAUL Doolin yesterday departed as manager of Cork City, feeding speculation that he is now set to take the reins at St Patrick's Athletic.
The former Drogheda United boss's resignation was confirmed in a club statement last night, ending a day of confusion over his future on Leeside.
There was much confusion surrounding Doolin's intentions early yesterday afternoon, with conflicting reports over whether he would be staying.
However, his departure was confirmed by a statement last night, although it was not clear whether the former Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne player had been sacked or resigned, less than a year into a two-year contract.
Meanwhile, Dundalk are continuing to whittle down their options in their search for a successor to Sean Connor, with former Norwich City and Wigan manager John Deehan entering the race this week.
The 52-year-old, who managed the Canaries in the Premiership in the early 1990s and is currently chief scout at Carrow Road, is believed to have already been interviewed for the Lilywhites post, with Galway United boss Ian Foster and Joe Miller also still in contention for the position.
