Dillon downs Drogs

Sligo Rovers 2 Drogheda united 0

John DILLON hit a brace as Sligo Rovers eased to victory over a limited Drogheda side at the Showgrounds.

Even though they were still without Joseph Ndo, Rovers took only four minutes to go ahead as Dillon reacted first after Drogheda 'keeper David Quirke kept out Richie Ryan's long-range effort.

Paul Cook's side had a great opportunity to go further ahead when Iarliath Davoren was upended in the penalty box in the 19th minute.

However, Alan Keane's effort from the spot was turned away excellently by Quirke.

Rafael Cretaro turned his close-range shot wide on 56 minutes and a minute later Dillon arrowed an effort just past the post.

Cretaro had a goal ruled out for offside on 60 minutes but Dillon grabbed his second when firing home from the edge of the box in the 68th minute after John Russell's shot had come back off the bar.
