Prolific League of Ireland shoppers Preston North End have agreed a deal to add Cork City left full-back Kevin O'Connor to their Irish colony.

He will follow his team-mate Sean Maguire to Deepdale after the striker's switch to Dundalk was announced in the aftermath of the league leaders' 3-0 win at Oriel Park last Friday.

Preston have been tracking O'Connor for some time and he is set to be announced as their second signing of the English transfer window in the next week.

The 22-year-old will also move this summer, with the departure time to be confirmed.

Cork are keeping Maguire until the end of July which means he will be available to try and maintain their 18-point lead at the top of the table and contribute to their early stage Europa League qualifiers.

O'Connor is from Wexford but made his breakthrough to senior football with Waterford in 2013.

He spent two seasons with the First Division outfit before joining Cork City in April 2015. Since then, he has steadily grown into a top-class performer at League of Ireland level and also featured for Ireland at U-21 level.

Preston boss Simon Grayson signed Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle from Dundalk last winter and also has ex-Cork man Alan Browne, Greg Cunningham and Eoin Doyle in his squad.
