Brennan's brace sinks Derry

NOT for the first time this season the Brennan brothers were to the fore as Drogheda defeated Derry at the Brandywell.

This time Gavin Brennan was the main man as his brace, along with Declan O'Brien's strike, saw Mick Cooke's side run out comfortable victors.

Ireland international James McClean was an interested spectator at last night's game.

Drogheda took the lead after just nine minutes when young defender Michael Barr lost possession inside the box to Brennan and he made no mistake steering the ball home.

Derry's first chance came on 28 minutes, but, after some neat play, David McDaid's shot was saved by Gabriel Sava.

United doubled their lead on 48 minutes when that man Brennan was on hand again to blast high into the net after Shane McEleney had initially blocked O'Brien's shot.

O'Brien netted in the 56th minute, lobbing Gerard Doherty from the edge of the box.

City's night was summed up on 77 minutes when Stephen McLaughlin's header, which had beaten Sava, was cleared off the line by Derek Prendergast.
