Brennan helps Bohs close in on top spot
Drogheda utd 0
Suddenly the 2010 Airtricity League season has a title race as Bohemians didn't think twice about capitalising on Shamrock Rovers' generosity in Dundalk.
The Gypsies swept Drogheda aside as Dalymount Park held its breath and waited for news from the Wee County. In the end, it was to their liking -- incredibly so -- and the champions moved to within four points of the leaders. Game on.
Pat Fenlon's side started with purpose and Killian Brennan went close with a curling free-kick, before Jason McGuinness headed Mark Quigley's corner into the danger zone and Yael Haro headed the ball off his own post.
The gloomy mood around Dalymount Park brightened considerably when news filtered through of Dundalk's second goal against Shamrock Rovers, and things only got better on 24 minutes as Brennan opened the scoring in style.
The winger received Owen Heary's pass and steadied himself before firing a left-footed rocket past Robert Duggan and into the top corner.
Bohs kept the pressure up and Mark Quigley had a low, long-range shot saved by Duggan before Jason Byrne doubled the lead from the resultant corner.
Bohs didn't let up after the interval and between them Brennan and Byrne should have wrapped the game up within 10 minutes of the second half. Byrne spurned two headers from Brennan balls, while the winger was guilty of profligacy himself when he headed a Raffaele Cretaro cross straight at Duggan.
Drogheda could have had a goal when Chris O'Connor appeared to drop Brennan's cross over his line, but he escaped as Bohs held out.
