Boyle seals points for Derry
Derry City 1-0 Wexford Youths
Despite not playing well, Derry City picked up another three points, this time seeing off Wexford Youths.
However, Youths boss Shane Keegan will feel his team deserved at least a draw. Youths went close on 17 minutes but Andy Mulligan's close-range strike was kept out by Gerard Doherty.
City took the lead a minute later thanks Nathan Boyle's clever finish, lifting the ball into the net, after Youths 'keeper Graham Doyle had misjudged Dean Jarvis' long ball.
The visitors should have levelled things minutes later but Danny Furlong failed to hit the target from close range.
Doherty made a smart save on 35 minutes, this time keeping out by Conor O'Keefe's 20-yard drive.
Soon after Furlong broke clear of the City defence to latch onto Paul Murphy's pass, but the striker fired well wide.
On 47 minutes, Barry McNamee should have doubled the home side's lead, but the midfielder somehow sidefooted over the bar from 10 yards.
Youths had two chances in quick succession on 72 minutes but Doherty did well to keep out Chris Kenny's header and Gary Delaney's effort was chested off the line by Joshua Daniels.
On 79 minutes, Aaron McEneff went close but his long-range strike, which had Doyle beaten, clipped the crossbar.
Derry City - Doherty, Vemmelund, McBride, Barry, Jarvis; McEneff, McNamee, Ward (Holden h-t); Boyle (McDermott 65), Patterson (Allan 80), Daniels.
