The positive form of both sides entering the clash was reflected in a lively opening that saw Ryan McEvoy fire an audacious attempt from 30 yards that Brendan Clarke was relieved to see veer wide of his right-hand upright.

Both Christopher Forrester and Aaron Greene fired over for St Pat's, before Peter Cherrie produced a superb fingertip save to parry Conan Byrne's rising effort onto the crossbar in the 20th minute.

The breakthrough arrived in added time as Greg Bolger timed his run to perfection to leave Cherrie helpless from 10 yards after fine play by James Chambers.
