Steven Beattie fired a hat-trick as Cork City recorded their biggest league win in John Caulfield's tenure at Turner's Cross last night.

Having lost to Derry City at the weekend, the hosts made no fewer than five changes and produced a good response. In front of 2,302, Beattie opened the scoring inside three minutes, half-volleying home after Paul Skinner punched Colin Healy's corner to him, and it was 2-0 on 10 when Kevin O'Connor squared for Sean Maguire.

It was almost all one-way traffic in the first half and Danny Morrissey made it 3-0 just before half-time after Beattie had hit the post.

Beattie did get his second five minutes into the second half when Morrissey chested Karl Sheppard's cross to him.

Sheppard also had a role to play in the fifth as his shot came crashing back off the crossbar and was smartly tucked away by Beattie for his hat-trick.

By that stage, the only question was as to how much they would win by and Morrissey wrapped things up with an acrobatic finish.

Cork City - McNulty; Dunleavy, O'Connell (McSweeney 62), Browne, O'Connor; Healy, G Morrissey (O'Sullivan 62); D Morrissey, Beattie, Sheppard; Maguire (Ogene 76).

L'ford - Skinner; Hughes, Flynn (Beirne 83), Rossiter, O'Reilly; O'Sullivan, Mulhall, Dillon (McKeown 61), Gannon, Simon (Chambers 73); O'Hanlon.

Ref - S Grant (Wexford)
