John Terry ended the week that saw him stripped of the England captaincy, amid allegations of an affair with the ex-girlfriend of former team-mate Wayne Bridge, by leading Chelsea to victory. The Stamford Bridge faithful backed their skipper as Didier Drogba did the damage at the other end, tucking home Terry's flick on, before he scored his 12th goal in 10 starts against Arsenal to complete the job.

Didier Drogba struck twice as Chelsea's power proved far too much for Arsenal, who fell 11 points behind the eventual champions. Ashley Cole returned to haunt his old team by setting the Ivory Coast striker up for an early opener, before his dangerous ball was deflected by Thomas Vermaelen into his own net and a Drogba free-kick sealed a sensational win late on.

Chelsea equalled their best away result against the Gunners with a comprehensive dismissal that secured their Champions League spot for the following season and ended Arsenal's 21-game unbeaten league run. Alex and Nicolas Anelka scored before the break, before Kolo Toure put the ball past Lukasz Fabianski. Nicklas Bendtner pulled one back but Florent Malouda completed the rout.

Robin van Persie struck twice in three second-half minutes to stun the league leaders at Stamford Bridge. A Johann Djourou own-goal had given the hosts a first-half lead, but Arsenal showed a resolve not associated with them by storming back. The Dutch striker looked offside for his equaliser, before beating Petr Cech from an Emmanuel Adebayor flick down.
