FRANK LAMPARD'S proposed transfer to Inter Milan moved closer last night after reports from Italy suggested that the England international would make a decision on his future within the next 24 hours.
In another significant development, Jose Mourinho made his first signing as Inter manager yesterday with the arrival of Brazilian international Amantino Mancini, whom Mourinho believes would be the perfect midfield foil for Lampard.
Mancini has signed a four-year deal with Inter after a fee in the region of £10m was agreed with Roma.
Inter may also use the carrot of Brazilian striker Adriano in any possible deal involving Lampard, which could appeal to Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.
It is understood Lampard and Chelsea have failed to find common ground in the player's ongoing contract negotiations, and remain deadlocked with the player refusing to sign a new deal.
Last week Inter made an opening £8 million bid for the 30-year-old, which Chelsea rejected. An improved offer is expected this week.
