Karhan spares Slovak blushes

SLOVAKIA took 63 minutes to find a way past Andorran goalkeeper Jose Antonio Gomes to keep pace with Russia and Ireland at the top of Group B.
Miroslav Karhan was the hero as the group's worst team managed to frustrate their hosts for large periods in Bratislava.
Gomes was busy all night, saving from Robert Vittek within the first minute, before saving from Filip Sebo.
Andorra had one shot on goal, but Marc Vales failed to find the target as the defence continued to thwart the Slovaks, with Vittek and Robert Jaz off target and Sebo had another effort saved by Gomez.
Marek Hamsik had a shot charged down as the home crowd began to believe it wasn't going to be their night -- until the Lazio man's corner fell to Karhan who found the net.
They pushed for a second goal to no avail, but it was immaterial as the Andorrans never looked like equalising.
