Japanese torture -- Coventry inflict pain on honeymooner
After waiting four years to go on honeymoon, Hiroki Yasumoto finally found the perfect escape for him and his wife Mio: a trip to Southampton to see his beloved Coventry City get hammered 4-0.
The Japanese couple, who live in Tokyo, never had time for a proper holiday together after getting married because of work commitments, so Yasumoto wanted to make sure it was a trip they would never forget.
The Sky Blues fan, who studied in the city in 2000 and 2001, convinced his 31-year-old wife to make the game the highlight of their belated honeymoon to Britain.
So they flew 9,600km to the south coast of England to see City -- who had already been relegated -- in their last game of the season.
"She was shocked when I suggested it," Mr Yasumoto said. "She said she didn't mind going as long as she didn't have to stand in the heavy rain."
The couple headed for the St Mary's stadium hours after landing in England, but Mio's revenge came in the scoreline.
"The match was like torture for me," Yasumoto admitted, but he has vowed to stick by his team. At least Mrs Yasumoto doesn't have to worry about her husband's level of commitment.
